The Seagull
Directed by Cat Cooper The Seagull stands at the threshold of the 20th century as a landmark of a new kind of theatre. It questions the relationship between art, nature, soul and matter in a fragmented world of parental abandonment, rejected love and artistic paralysis. Chekhov wanted a theatre of truthfulness and resiliency. His habit of understating major dramatic events, by having them occur offstage, prompts us to reflect on their significance and its fundamental humanity.
