A Doll's House
Directed by Sarah Friedberg From the warmth of Nora and Torvald Helmer's living room A Doll's House whisks us straight into a maelstrom of lies and deception. For her entire life, Nora Helmer has been treated as a beguiling but helpless child. When her long-lost friend Kristine Linde returns to town, Nora decides to prove her strength and confesses to Kristine that she committed a forgery years ago. Soon Nora’s money lender, Nils Krogstad, comes knocking, threatening to expose that forgery to the world unless Nora satisfies his impossible demand. As Nora plunges into despair, Kristine and Krogstad secretly rekindle their long-extinguished romance. Meanwhile, Torvald's sickly confidant, Dr. Rank, grows emboldened and confesses his clandestine passion for Nora, putting an end to her last-ditch plan to appeal to Rank as a way of shielding Torvald from the truth. Nora finally confesses, and Torvald's heartless reaction leads her to disillusionment and the shocking decision to abandon her family in favor of her own self-discovery.
