Benoit Beauchamp current project is located in Charlottesville where he is managing dance in the Drama department at the University of Virginia. Previously, he taugh at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA. While teaching in Malibu, he designed an adaptation of Hamlet, The Laramie Project, Bartered Bride, and Empire Builders.He has been involved with inFluxdance for the past couple of years. He has served as production designer for the past few shows including An Absence of Fences, This Fairytale is not Working Out, This is Not My Beautiful House and Found & Lost: Goals for 2002 which received a best of the fringe award in San Francisco. Prior to that, Benoit’s lighting was seen at the premiere of the Center for New Theater’s production of Macbeth with Stephen Dillane. The work was shown at REDCAT in Los Angeles, the Almeida Theatre in London, and at the Sydney Theater in Australia.
Originally from Québec, he received a BFA with a specialization in Theatre Design from Concordia University. Benoit received his MFA in Scenic and Lighting Design at California Institute of the Arts where he also worked on many projects including Spit Shine Glisten, produced in collaboration with the Cotsen Center for Puppetry and the workshop production of Brain People, a play produced and written by Jose Rivera. His extensive credits in lighting design for dance include Sleeping with the Ambassador, a site specific piece at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, choreographed by Heidi Duckler. He has also collaborated with many dance artists including the GreatFruit Collective, Ella Ben-Aharon, Lauren Gordon, Sumi Kim and many more.
